In celebration of the upcoming 75th anniversary of Charles M. Schulz’s iconic “Peanuts” comic strip, Paris is hosting a unique exhibition titled “Snoopy In Style.” From March 22 to April 5, 2025, visitors can explore the evolution of fashion through the beloved characters of Snoopy and his sister Belle. This free exhibition offers a rare glimpse into how these characters have influenced and been embraced by the fashion world over the decades.

The event is a must-visit for art lovers, fashion enthusiasts, and fans of the Peanuts series. The exhibition offers a unique blend of nostalgia and contemporary fashion, providing insights into the lasting influence of Schulz’s creations. Whether you’re in search of diverting entertainment or a rare glimpse into Peanut’s and Paris fashion history, this event is for you.

A storied venue, Rich in history

The “Snoopy In Style” exhibition is hosted within the historic Hôtel du Grand Veneur, situated in Paris’ vibrant Marais district.

Constructed in 1637, this hôtel particulier (private mansion) was originally commissioned by Claude de Guénégaud. In 1733, it was acquired by Vincent Hennequin, marquis d’Ecquevilly, who served as the Captain General of the King’s hunting parties, known as the “Grand Veneur.” This association is reflected in the building’s façade, which is adorned with hunting-themed bas-reliefs.

Architecturally, the mansion showcases the work of Michel Villedo, a prominent 17th-century architect. Featuring a U-shaped layout with a central courtyard and a garden, Villedo’s design reflects the classic aesthetics of French Baroque architecture exemplified by other notable structures from the period, such as the Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte and the Chateau du Versailles.

Like French fashion itself, which the Snoopy in Style celebration honors alongside the Peanuts characters themselves, the Hôtel du Grand Veneur has undergone various transformations. From 1823 to 1901, it served as a convent for the Franciscan ladies of Sainte-Elisabeth. Subsequently, it housed exhibition halls for Jacob Delafon, a bathroom fixture manufacturer, until 2007.

Since 2014, the mansion has functioned as a contemporary art gallery, seamlessly blending its rich historical context with modern creativity. This evolution underscores the dynamic interplay between Paris’s storied past and its vibrant present, offering visitors a unique cultural experience that bridges centuries of history and art.

Event Highlights

Boasting an impressive collection of seventy-five outfits designed for plush versions of Snoopy and Belle, the exhibition highlights ensembles crafted by renowned fashion designers, including, among others, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, and Vivienne Westwood. In addition to showcasing the Snoopy’s and Belle’s evolving styles, this unique retrospective explores their significance for and impact on popular culture and fashion.
