La Fête de la Musique, or World Music Day, originated in France in 1982 on the summer solstice. French Minister of Culture, Jack Lang, and the renowned French composer and musicologist, Maurice Fleuret, inaugurated the festival with the aim of promoting and celebrating music in all its forms. Observed annually on June 21, the festival has grown into a global phenomenon, transforming public spaces in over 100 countries into vibrant concert venues where music can be heard and enjoyed by everyone.
